Treasurer/Clerk

The Treasurer/Clerk serves as the link between council and citizens.

The Office of Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Salix provides clerical, record keeping and administrative functions to the council. In addition, this individual performs many tasks that assist in guiding and managing the operation of local government policy and law. Below are a few of the responsibilities of the City of Salix Treasurer/Clerk:

  • Responsible for the safe custody of all funds of the city in the manner provided by law and council direction
  • Keep records of receipt and disbursements of all money or securities received or disbursed on behalf of the city and specify date, from whom and for what purpose
  • Keep seperate account of money received by special assessments
  • Reconcile depository statements and certify monthly to the council the balance of cash and investments of each fund and amounts received and disbursed
  • Keep a registar of all bonds outstanding and record all payments of interest and principal
  • Calculates and distributes monthy municipal utility bills
  • Manage requests to speak to council
  • Inform persons appointed by council to offices and administer Oath of Office when necessary
  • Collects information and prepares agendas and other information for council
  • Record and authenticates measures considered by council
  • Submits countil meeting minutes, ordinances and resolutions
  • Certify all measures establishing any zoning district, building permits to the County
  • Maintain all city records and documents
  • Issue or revoke licenses and permits when authorized
  • Perform duties relating to elections in accordance of Chapter 376 of the Code of Iowa
  • Develops and maintains city budget and other required reporting for the city
  • Other duties as specified by the council by resolution or ordinance
