We welcome you to St. Joseph Parish in Salix, IA. We hope that you find that it is a wonderful place to live and to practice your faith.

St. Joseph Parish is made up of member from town such as Salix, Sloan, Sergeant Bluff and the surrounding areas.

Fr. Patrick J. O'Kane, is a very active priest serving St. John's Parish in Onawa, IA, St. Benard's Parish in Blencoe, Ia. and St. Joseph's in Salix since July of 2005. Father previously served the Sacred Heart Parish in Early, Ia and the St. Joesph Parish in Schaller, IA. His dog Clare has been a wonderful companion to him for four years.
St. Joseph's Parish Organizations are as follows:

  • Cemetery Committee


The Parish operates a Religious education (CCD) program (Grades 1-12) staffed by devoted voluntary teachers, two per classroom. Presently, the students meet on Wednesday evenings usually (September thru first part of May). The parish also offers Sunday School during the 11am Sunday Mass. We also have a Youth Mass for grades 5-12 along with coffee and rolls being served after the Sunday Mass in the Parish Hall.

Baptism: 
Infant Baptism: By appointment pre-baptism program required for parents; Children of school age participate in the Church's adult initiation program; Adults join the Church through the Adult initiation (RCIA) process.

Confirmation: 
For those baptized as infants, Confirmation is celebrated with students in grades 9-11 every three years. For those past this age, Confirmation is scheduled within the flow of the adult initiation process.

First Eucharist: 
First Eucharist is normally celebrated for children in 2nd grade.

Reconciliation: 
By appointment and before Mass up until about 10 minutes befoe Mass time & Saturdays from 2:45 - 3:45pm

Marriages: 
By appointment 6 months marriage preparation program
